Bridgesong Artist Intensive: (Re)Kindling Our Collective Creative Fire
"Poetry is not only dream and vision; it is the skeleton architecture of our lives. It lays the foundations for a future of change, a bridge across our fears of what has never been before." -Audre Lorde, from "Poetry is Not a Luxury"

Dear artist,

In this first Bridgesong Artist Intensive, I hope to share with you my own methods for igniting embodied creativity as a multidisciplinary artist. As a singer-songwriter, composer, poet, video and sound artist, my approach to writing, listening, improvisation, and performance is multi-sensory. You can expect to leave this artist intensive with heightened observational skills, especially in the sonic realm!

As a teacher, I am committed to cultivating compassion, resisting grind culture, and using art-making to envision and enact collective liberation from cycles of oppression. I draw upon the rich and innovative knowledge and practices of Queer and Trans People of Color, and work to center Black and Indigenous thought and practices, which have been traditionally erased from elite academic institutions. As our beloved Audre Lorde expresses in the quote above, we cannot afford to NOT spend time with our art,  when it is the means by which we bring forth a world we have yet to experience.

In this artist intensive, you can expect:

-MANY writing exercises, in multiple genres
-Improvisational Activities
-Vocal activities
-Deep Listening Meditation (as taught by my late mentor, Pauline Oliveros)
-Sonic Score composition
-Dialogue
-Optional Performance

Thank you for your interest in this artist intensive. If you would like to join us, please register by January 31, 2020. This intensive is open to all ages, and levels of experience. Instruments/art materials are welcome, but not required. Please bring something to write with.

Your participation in this intensive supports your own growth and thriving. You are also supporting the livelihood of a queer Xicana Xingona independent artist. I plan to bring forth many more opportunities for artistic growth in the future.
