𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆?
>> Yes! All of the mentoring activity, which includes answering questions on the Discord server and hosting 1 on 1s, will be done virtually. You are, however, welcome to come to the jam in person if you wish to meet participants face to face. We're also working on a few extra perks and recognition for mentors who attend in person.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲?
>> As a mentor, whatever time you can give will be much appreciated. You can choose to pop in and out of the Discord to answer questions whenever you'd like and for 1 on 1s, we will create time slots based on your availability. 

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗱𝗼?
>> As a judge, we ask you to play through each submission to the jam and thoughtfully critique it while following a provided rubric. Judges should expect to spend approximately 3–5 total hours over the course of the judging week. Once the jam ends and submissions are locked, you will have a flexible window to play through and evaluate the games alongside the other judges. We will provide a spreadsheet rubric to help keep submissions, scores, and notes organized.

After judging is complete, judges may compare notes and discuss results before determining which games receive awards and notifying the EGaDS officers so we can prepare for the awards ceremony stream. Additionally, we typically offer Judge’s Choice Awards for specific favorites, and we may invite you to the awards ceremony stream to present awards or share feedback on standout games.

𝗪𝗮𝗶𝘁, 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 *𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆* 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻? 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗴𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲.
>> When submitting a game, we will allow submissions to opt out of judging if they wish. We expect judges to play every submission that has opted in for judging, which will probably decrease the number of games judges have to play. The list of games being judged (with links to them) will be provided on the "rubric" we give.

𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝗷𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝘃𝗶𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆?
>> This year, we actually expect judges to do their judging virtually, in their own homes, after the jam ends. This takes a lot of the time pressure off of them and gives them time to meet and review their critiques with each other without us EGaDS officers nagging them! We will give judges private channels in our Discord server to work in, and with the jam submissions due at 8PM CDT on Sunday we can avoid everyone being at the GDC late in the evening. We will work with the judges to help facilitate the process in the smoothest way possible!

>> Judges should expect to spend approximately 3–5 hours total over the course of the judging week. Since game jam submissions are typically short and simple experiences, we expect the workload to be very manageable and flexible within the judging period.

>> Yes! Feel free to sing up for both if you are interested in both mentoring and judging. We just ask that you fully understand the time commitment required for both and that you plan accordingly. 

𝗧𝗫𝗚𝗝 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀. 𝗔𝗺 𝗜 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿?
>> This is kind of a gray area and is up to your discretion. If you are volunteering to mentor, you need to make time for your mentoring responsibilities, even if you are participating as a jammer alongside volunteering. As a judge, we are most concerned with preventing any conflicts of interest. To that end, we will allow you or your team to submit a game for the jam just for fun, but we require that you opt it out of judging when you submit it (even if no other team member is judging).
