Medical Students for a Sustainable Future (MS4SF) is a coalition of medical students from around the country who are invested in taking action on climate change. The Lancet Commission has characterized climate change as the “biggest global health threat” and the “greatest global health opportunity” of the 21st century. As the rising generation of clinicians, we understand that we must engage in this issue. As medical students, we recognize our unique position and compelling voice. We help educate patients, health care professionals, and future generations of physicians. We are actively working on increasing awareness about the importance of environmental stewardship in the health field. Our members are working on a broad variety of initiatives spanning advocacy, research, curriculum reform, climate-smart healthcare, plant-based health, and community building. Examples of our ongoing projects include: efforts to include inclusion of climate education in medical school curricula, advocacy efforts focused on opening dialogues with organizational deans, local legislatures, community leaders, and national Research Journal Clubs with experts in the field.
