Identifying coral reef essential variables for monitoring and reporting on reef health:- PART A – Reporting coral reef health
This questionnaire that will be used as inputs to the GCRMN strengthening process, and in particular at Town Hall Meeting at the ICRS: Coral reef reporting - from science to policy. 22 June 2016 – 19:30-21:30; Room 301B

Purpose of the form

This two-part survey seeks to gather information on the next generation of variables we should be reporting from coral reefs. This information will be used in the context of a proposal to strengthen the GCRMN and build capacity for a coral reef marine Biodiversity Observation Network.

Data from this questionnaire will be used at a Town Hall workshop at the ICRS (June, Hawaii) to gather feedback from the coral reef science and conservation community, and subsequently to identify elements for scoping for a coral reef ‘biodiversity observation network’ or BON at the GEOBON Open Science Conference (July, Germany). Thereafter the information will be used in setting out a workplan for strengthening the GCRMN to be undertaken during 2017-2020.

Responses entered before 15 June 2016 will be included in the ICRS Town Hall meeting, but the survey will be kept open after that until 31 July 2016.

Part A has 4 parts, and will take about 10 minutes to complete:
(1) Personal information and involvement in GCRMN
(2) Your assessment of components of the GCRMN as concept/pilot/mature
(3) Data sharing and use
(4) Open comments/suggestions

Part B should be filled multiple times for as many variables as you would like to respond on. It may take 5-10 minutes for one variable:
(1) Identify potential Essential Variables (EVs) for coral reefs, indicating the current status of their observing systems.

If there are non-applicable questions or questions you do not wish to answer, please disregard and continue to the next. A partially completed survey is still useful.

“For any enquiries or further suggestions, write to with “GCRMN coral reef essential variables” in the Subject”.
