2024 PLC Armidale Whole School Colour Run

Dear Parents and Carers

To celebrate the Year 12’s Final Activities Day on Wednesday 25 September, all students will be participating in a Whole School Colour Run which will be held at PLC Armidale. 

The Colour Run is a fundraising event and will be held in support of Anya's Wish Foundation as a mark of respect for Anya Zuber and her family. Anya graduated in the class of 2019 and unfortunately passed away in 2020 from an aggressive and persistent form of Osteosarcoma. Much has been done in the way of remembering Anya, including her mother, along with health professionals, developing Anya's Wish and the 19 for 19 challenge to conduct research and raise funds to help improve the outcomes for children diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Parents may also like to make an online donation to this worthwhile cause - https://www.ccia.org.au/event/in-memory-of-anya/home

The Colour Run is a 1.9km event with a fun and colourful twist. It is about participation and ends with the students being covered in coloured powder by the time they reach the finish line. The powder used is non-toxic, biodegradable, environmentally friendly and skin safe. 

Prior to the Colour Run there will be a barbecue lunch hosted by the Student Representative Council, with $5 charged to each student's account.

The Colour Run will commence after lunch at approximately 2:15pm on the Senior School Oval.

Year groups will start the Colour Run at 3-5 minute intervals. Each Junior School Year group will be paired with a Senior School Year group.

All students are to wear their Guild Sports Uniform with the PLC Armidale tracksuit pants or green PE shorts to school. Students are asked to bring a white or light-coloured shirt to wear for the run. Students will change back into their Guild shirt to travel home.

Sunglasses may be worn during the Colour Run.

If students are asthmatic, they can choose to not participate, or to run with their puffer.

At the end of the Colour Run students must stay at school until after the conclusion at 3:30pm.

I am aware in signing this document for my daughter’s participation in the 2024 Colour Run to be held at PLC Armidale on Wednesday 25 September 2024, that certain elements of the activity/activities may be physically and/or emotionally demanding.

I acknowledge that in providing me with this document, PLC Armidale has warned me that certain inherent physical and/or emotional risks and dangers may exist in the activity/activities.

I acknowledge that while PLC Armidale and its staff will make every reasonable effort to minimise exposure to known risks, all hazards and dangers associated with these activities (including but not limited to the risks identified in the Schedule below) cannot be foreseen or may be beyond the control of PLC Armidale and staff.

I agree that I understand the general nature of these risks may include:
● physical and/or bodily injury including but not limited to fractures, strains, sprains, lacerations, spinal injuries, partial and/or total paralysis, head or brain injuries, loss of limb or body part; and
● psychological injury, stress and/or emotional distress; and
● associated trauma; and
● death
howsoever caused.

I have discussed with my daughter that she must abide by any safety guidelines and/or written and/or verbal instructions in relation to the activity/activities as established by the Staff of PLC Armidale in charge for the duration of the activity/activities.

I acknowledge that failure to abide by these guidelines could compromise my daughter's safety and well being, other participants and staff. My child would then be directed to leave the activity/activities at my expense.

I acknowledge that the warning contained in this document constitutes a risk warning pursuant to the Civil Liability Act 2002.
