Escuela Valdez PTO Volunteer Opportunities 2024-2025
The Valdez PTO supports our school in many ways! We provide budget for school specials, micro grants to teachers for classroom needs, plan and host fun community events, implement the Valdez enrichment program, fundraise for our school and generally support students, families and teachers. It is fun and easy to get involved! Review the available positions below and mark 'yes' if you are interested. PTO Co-Chair

Number of positions available: 1

Time commitment: Time commitment varies. You can anticipate leading monthly PTO updates during the monthly Coffee with the Principal (Friday morning) and attending planning meetings in person or virtually up to twice a month. You will also be a part of a group text for the PTO board of directors.

Description: This person helps lead the vision of the PTO, acts as a voting member of the PTO board. You will lead PTO meetings, act as a liaison between school administration/teachers and the PTO, make decisions on where PTO money is spent, etc. This is a great way to really plug into our school!

PTO Secretary

Number of positions available: 1

Time commitment: The time commitment is minimal. You can anticipate attending monthly PTO updates during the monthly Coffee with the Principal and attending planning meetings in person or virtually up to twice a month. You will also be a part of a group text for the PTO board of directors.

Description: This position acts as a voting member of the PTO board, helps with PTO communications, takes meeting notes, attends PTO meetings, helps with PTO planning, and makes decisions where PTO money is spent.

Volunteer Coordinator

Number of positions available: 2

Time commitment: The time commitment is minimal and varies depending on upcoming events.

Description: Two people are needed to help manage PTO volunteers. You can expect to be contacted by the PTO when an upcoming event requires volunteers and asked to create a volunteer sign up using SignUpGenius. You will create a communication asking for volunteer help for each volunteer opportunity that includes a link to the online volunteer platform and then funnel this information to classroom liaisons so they can share it in WhatsApp groups and to the school to include in the weekly Powerful News.

Fun Run Co-Coordinator

Number of positions available: 1

Time commitment: The annual Fun Run takes place in late-October. You can anticipate working on this event for a total of two months. There is a company that runs the event, but you will be the liaison for the school. There is already a seasoned parent coordinator who you will assist and learn from. 

Description:  One person is needed to help plan the Valdez Fun Run, one of the PTO’s largest fundraising events of the year. You can anticipate creating parent communications, act as a liaison with the company who plans the event, work with the school on incentives for family donations, coordinate with sponsors, etc.

Scholastic Book Fair 

Number of positions available: 2

Time commitment: The book fair runs for one week in the fall semester. Anticipate some planning tasks to complete prior to book fair week. 

Description:  Two people are needed to help plan the Valdez Scholastic Book Fair. This event acts as a fundraiser for our school and allows students the ability to purchase books. While there will be two lead planners, other parents will volunteer to help run the fair during book fair week - including cashiers, set up, coordinating times for classrooms to visit the fair, etc. This event has been implemented many times at our school and you will receive guidance on how to run it.

Dine-Out Night Coordinator

Number of positions available: 1

Time commitment: Time commitment varies, but is typically minimal. All work can be done from home. 

Description: One person is needed to plan Valdez Dine-Out nights. This is a low commitment way to help increase fundraising at our school. Typical job duties include planning dine out nights with local restaurants. We have a few restaurants that we’ve worked with consistently and you are welcome to add others to the list. It requires contacting the restaurant to set up a dine out night, coordinating with the school and PTO to ensure the dine-out night date works, publicizing the dine-out night by sharing communications about it to the classroom liaisons so they can share on WhatsApp and sharing information with the school for inclusion in the Powerful News. The previous dine-out coordinator can help get you started!

Silent Auction Coordinators

Number of positions available: 3

Time commitment: There is one silent auction held during the adult-only Loteria Event in the spring. Plan for no more than two hours per week for two months - all work can be done at home by phone and computer.

Description: The team will contact local businesses and ask for in kind donations for the Valdez Silent Auction, then set up the silent auction on an online platform and create a display at Loteria.

WhatsApp Communications Liaison

Number of positions available: 1

Time commitment: Time commitment is minimal and depends on the amount of communications that need to be shared at any given time. All work can be completed at home.

Description: This position would act as a liaison between school administration, primarily with the school psychologist Bella, to take school information and distribute it to the classroom parent liaisons group via WhatsApp so they can share information with their individual classrooms.

Event Planning Support

Number of positions available: 6

Time commitment: Depending on your schedule, you can support just one or multiple community building events. with planning, set up, volunteer coordination, etc.

Description: Help plan community building events, various roles available. Planning school events is a really fun job and there are many ways to get involved that fit within any schedule.

General Fundraising Support

Number of positions available: 4

Time commitment: This is a low commitment way to have a big impact on our school. All work can be done remotely and wherever your schedule allows.

Description: Help increase donations to Valdez PTO’s Powerful Together campaign. This campaign aims to increase regular donations from school families and local businesses to create a large funding source to support an annual financial give to the school to support specials (art, music, physical education), teacher micro grants, school events, teacher appreciation and many other things. You will either help communicate with families to increase family donations or email and correspond with local businesses to ask for their financial support. There is one lead for this program and you would act as support.
