Canadian Blood Services: build a blood plasma donor centre for northern BC
On behalf of Our Blood Counts, we ask for your support in calling for a blood plasma donor centre in northern BC.

We want Canadian Blood Services to build this centre because: 
  • Canada has historically collected only 20 per cent of the plasma it needs from domestic sources. While plasma collection is increasing, Canada will still need up to half its plasma donations from American donors;
  • Patients need plasma-based medications for serious illnesses like cancer, kidney disease, and immune issues;
  • Canadian Blood Services wants to recruit a million new blood donors in the next five years; and 
  • Northern British Columbians want to contribute but now have to travel long distances to make life-saving blood donations.
Canadian Blood Services recently announced plans to build a blood plasma donor centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario. We believe those plans could be a model for a similar plan for northern BC.
