Art Fundraiser

This is a school-wide fundraiser for the Art Department. The Art Fundraiser is going digital this year! All orders will be processed online so help will be needed to distribute the orders when they arrive in early December. We need 5 or more volunteers one day in December to unpack and deliver the awesome artwork our Kiker children have made. Helpers are also needed to hang and take down artwork in the Kiker hallways throughout the year as well.

Book Fair

Proceeds from this event are used to purchase library books, educational materials and support library staffing. Volunteers are needed to help create decorations for the fair during the weeks prior to the fair, set up on the day prior to the fair, and help students locate books, restock and sales the week of the fair. Volunteers are also needed for one day of take down. Work a two-hour shift, or more!

Box Tops

This is a great volunteer opportunity for parents looking to volunteer in their spare time. Count and sort Box Tops at home in preparation for November and March submission deadlines. We would also welcome ideas to increase box top collections. Volunteer as your time permits, usually one to two hours per week during October and February. The school receives approximately $2,000.00 per year from Box Tops.

Camp Read

Camp Read is a program designed to help students strengthen early reading skills, fluency, and comprehension. Volunteers will work one-on-one with students, and will be trained and given materials to use. The time commitment is up to you, from 1-3 hours, once a week or multiple times a week. Position requires a background check.

Campus Beautification

Volunteers are needed to help at beautification events which occur 1 to 2 times per year and at some of our mini work days which occur approximately 4 times per year. We typically need volunteers in October, December and April. Volunteer as little as 1 hour or as many as 10. We will also be sending out a sign-up sheet for families to pick up trash as well as gather lost and found items just one weekend per the school year. Community Support with Sister School, Allison Elementary

Green Apple Savings Program

The first Wednesday of every month students can deposit money into their accounts before assembly. A+FCU will make the initial $10.00 deposit for all new Youth Memberships. Volunteers help with collecting deposits and assisting student tellers.

Healthy Lifestyles

Our Healthy Lifestyles Committee is looking for volunteers for various events throughout the school. If you are interested in helping implement positive changes focused on health, wellness and fitness at Kiker, please consider volunteering. We will be looking for volunteers for:

Keyhole Garden expansion (3 new gardens in the making) and maintenance
Garden leaders (no experience needed) to transfer Key-Hole Garden produce into the Kiker cafeteria for the first time
Introduction and/or oversight of Kiker’s first Junior Master Gardeners’ program

Parent education initiatives
Cooking demos

International Night

International Night 2018 is upon us. Happening only once every 2 years, International Night is a celebration of cultures, languages, and traditions and is a big night of fun on the Kiker campus. We need evening volunteers at the event on Friday, January 26, 2018, as well as committee members, to help with entertainment, country booths, food, and publicity. The Committee meets monthly for 30 minutes on Fridays after drop off and more frequently as the event draws near.

Kiker Annual Fundraiser

This is a school-wide spring fundraiser and end of year celebration. This committee includes coordination of the annual dinner, dance and auction held in April.

Library Volunteers

Provide assistance to library staff by shelving books and other tasks, as directed by the librarian. Volunteer shifts are one day every week or every other week with two hour shifts preferred. Library Volunteers are needed all year.

Lost & Found

Marquee

Promote school events on our outdoor marquee. During the school year, the time commitment is approximately 20-30 minutes per week (some weeks no time is required). During the summer, the commitment is approximately 20-30 minutes per month. Updating the marquee typically takes place during the evening hours.

Math Pentathlon

Math Pentathlon is a program of fun games that strengthen math concepts, problem solving, and creative thinking. We need volunteers to teach the games to participating students on Monday evenings from 6:00-7:00 pm, December- March, April, or May (depending on which grades you teach). We also need a librarian to manage our inventory of games and handle check-outs and check-ins at practices. The librarian will have an additional time commitment at the beginning and end of season to inventory the game boards and pieces.

Parents as Partners

Several times during the school year, volunteers who are comfortable working with children will supervise a classroom for no more than a two-hour block while teachers are conferencing with colleagues on campus. Volunteers are screened with a background check and trained by Assistant Principal Lisa Ward Casey. This is a great opportunity to work with your own child’s grade level and also provides a chance to learn about other grade levels.

PIE is an AISD program that enables business and community partners to help and work with local schools both with financial and volunteer needs. There are many ways to partner: rebates, donations financial or in-kind, and much more. In return, partners get exposure and recognition in the school community and AISD. The National PTA Reflections Program is an arts recognition and achievement program. Volunteers are needed to help with this wonderful exhibition of our student submissions and artistic works in six categories: dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and visual arts. Volunteers are needed for a variety of positions and will work with our PTA Arts in Education Coordinators.

The Yearbook Committee is looking for volunteers in the following areas:

1) Photographers to cover Kiker events, clubs and miscellaneous photo opportunities. The expected time commitment is 2-4 hours a month, during September through March, depending upon photographers’ availability.

2) Volunteers to help with event and club page layouts. (Clicking and dragging photos into a template. Training is provided. If you have created an Internet based greeting card or photo album, this role is for you). The expected time commitment is 2-4 hours per layout.

3) Volunteers to manage yearbook sales and distribution. Expected time commitment is 1-2 hours per month, except in May, when the yearbook is distributed which requires 4-6 hours.

The yearbook is digitally designed and the publishers’ software is easy to learn. Please contact us if you would like to join a group of parent volunteers working together to create a fun and memorable Kiker yearbook.
