Bike Rodeo Event Request
One of the ways in which the Terry Benjey Bicycling Foundation (TBBF) and Cape Fear Cyclists (CFC) provide bicycle safety education for children and adults in the Cape Fear Region is through something known as a "Bike Rodeo".  The central focus of a Bike Rodeo is a fun, interactive, and non-competitive skills course designed for kids to improve bike handling and traffic safety skills within a safe and controlled environment. A Bike Rodeo can easily be incorporated into many types of community events. The TBBF provides the educational component of a Bike Rodeo, including safety training supplies, materials, and instructors trained and certified by the League of American Bicyclists (L.A.B.).

Along with an appropriate site, volunteer participation will be essential to the success of your Bike Rodeo.  When we follow up with your request, one of the most important things we'll want to discuss is the extent to which volunteers from your group or organization will be available to assist in the following roles.
  • Registration table
  • Event set up and break down
  • "Runners"- people who can get items needed during the event
  • Station attendees - Help get kids ready for helmet fittings, bike safety checks, and to help people bring bikes to the training area.
We'll also want to get an indication of the extent to which your group or organization can help with potentially needed items such as tables, chairs, clipboards, coolers with bottled water, etc.

Based on the above, I understand that conducting a safe and effective Bike Rodeo is a collaborative, team effort that requires an appropriate site and a sufficient number of volunteers.  *
