Johns Creek Digital Learners/Homeschool Field Trip - WAITING LIST ONLY
The Johns Creek Convention and Visitors Bureau is excited to have you join us at the Digital Learners/Homeschool Field Trip all around Johns Creek, GA on Friday, September 18th.  

We have sessions on history, science and art at various locations in the city, and we invite you to attend one, two, three or all four sessions, as your schedule allows.

These programs are geared towards elementary-age students, and older and younger siblings are welcome. The maximum capacity at each session is 15 students, including siblings, PreK and up. When you register, please include all children  who will be in active attendance and participating, PreK and up.  Some sessions have hands-on learning opportunities, and we want to be sure to have enough materials available, as well as abide by proper social distancing protocols.

Masks are highly recommended and physical distancing will be encouraged.

Did you know we live on the land that was part of the Cherokee Nation or that past residents here were involved in Cherokee leadership? This program will present a brief history of the Native Americans that lived in our area of Georgia with emphasis on the Cherokee connection to this land. Students will also have an opportunity to learn more about the culture of the Native Americans at several stations set up with displays and learning activities.

Learn about the sacrifice of American soldiers that is represented at each monument at the Veteran's Memorial Walk and The Wall That Heals from the Johns Creek Veterans Association. The Wall That Heals is a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington DC with over 58,000 names of those who fought for our great country.

Lauren McDaniel will present a “Reptile Show” at the amphitheater at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve. Students will get the opportunity to meet reptiles native to Georgia and a few from around the world. They will also learn about the classification of species.

1pm-1:45pm Session 3 - Forging with Fire with Sculptor Eric Strauss at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve - CLOSED, CAPACITY REACHED; Please indicate if you'd like to be on the Waiting List
Former Johns Creek resident and local artist Eric Strauss was chosen to create a sculpture for the roundabout at Bell and Boles Roads. Eric will discuss the elements of forging metal and the artistic techniques used to create a sculpture.  Participants, with their guardian’s permission, will be able to hammer on the heated metal to experience what it is like to be an artist using blacksmithing skills.
After discovering sculpture while at Georgia Southern University, Eric studied art in Cortona, Italy before opening his studio in Atlanta.  His piece can be found in museums and in public and private collections all over the world.
