The Church

It is a widespread opinion today that the church is unimportant. A study of the Scriptures will reveal, however, that the word “church” in its singular and plural forms appear approximately 110 times in the New Testament, not to count the hundreds of times that the church is referred to by the due of other descriptive terms. Any subject that is referred to that many times in the New Testament most be an important subject, and we should be interested in what the Bible has to say about it. There are many false opinions about the church. This is due to the fact that we are often guilty of listening to what men say about it, rather than what the Bible says. In our study, we shall see how the “church” is identified in the Bible, what it is, whether or not it is important, and how to become a member of it. In this first section, we shall be studying the various terms identifying the church.

So in our study, let us remember that we are talking about the church even though we may use a passage with one of these other identifying terms.
