2026 Volunteer Application
The Melbourne Alternative Comics Expo (MAKE) is operating for the first time, and we'll need some help throughout the weekend of October 9-11, 2026.

MAKE is run by a committee of volunteers, and we'll need helping hands from more incredible volunteers across the weekend.

Thank you so much for being a part of the MAKE 2026 team!

MAKE Comics Festival Information
This year's MAKE Comics Festival will be held on October 9, 10 and 11, across multiple venues.

  • Friday is our Speaking to Pictures live comics reading event. Our opening night combines comics and live performance into an audio-visual feast where audiences will be able to watch some of the best comics creators bring their stories to life.

  • Saturday is our Community Day. Visitors will be able to spend a day learning comics craft and industry knowledge with workshops and panels by creators and publishing experts.

Do you have any conditions that might affect your volunteering experience? Please let us know here or via email (hello@makecomics.com.au)
For example, if you cannot stand for long periods, please let us know!

This will help us to ensure that you are not assigned to tasks that conflict with your conditions
Do you have any questions or concerns about volunteering at MAKE?
Please read and confirm your agreement to the following before submitting your application *
  • Please disclose any conditions that may affect your volunteering experience (for example, if you cannot stand for long periods). We will do our best to accommodate you and are happy to discuss it via email.

  • If you feel unwell in the leadup to MAKE, please let the volunteer coordinator/a MAKE committee member know as soon as possible so that we can adjust the roster accordingly. For your own safety, and for the safety of others, please do not attend if you are unwell.

  • If you begin to feel unwell during your volunteer shift, please let the volunteer coordinator/a MAKE committee member know. You are welcome to end your volunteering shift at any time if you don't feel your best - as long as you are physically ok to do so and you inform a committee member.

  • Maintain awareness of the time each day. If you have been rostered on for multiple duties throughout the day, you will need to get yourself to the required areas on time.

  • Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated during your shift. There are multiple places to re-fill your water bottle at each of MAKE's venues.

  • As a volunteer, you will be representing MAKE. It is important that any representatives have read and agree to follow our Standards of Conduct [LINK].

  • If your volunteer shift has finished, please move out of staffed areas and exit the premises, or stay in areas open to the general public. The same rules apply if you are asked to finish your shift.

  • At the end of your shift, remember to return your vest and lanyard to  the volunteer coordinator/a MAKE committee member  for the day!
