Smoky Hill High School IB Middle Years Program (MYP) Intent to Participate Form for 2021-2022 for Incoming Freshmen (Current 8th Graders)
Thank you for considering the IB Middle Years Program at Smoky Hill High School in the Cherry Creek School District! We review applications in the order in which we receive your submission of this Intent to Participate Form AND the applicant's first semester of 8th grade official grade report.
Our first round of application review and acceptance will be from Jan 8th to Jan 31st. Acceptance letters will be sent via email on a weekly basis to students in the Smoky Hill HS feeder area. All correspondence with our IB Office will be through email.
Incoming Freshmen interested in the Program MUST:
1) Complete this Intent to Participate Form
2) Email an official current grade report (must include your first semester of 8th grade grades) WITHIN 3 DAYS of completing this form (your grade report must include your name and source (ie PowerSchool))

. For the subject line of the email, please write "Grade Report for (Student's Name)". Attach the student's 8th grade grade report, preferably in PDF format, to the email. NOTE: We need to receive an official school document, such as from Powerschool.
>>>How to get a PDF of Grades: You may log onto Powerschool and check your grades. Make sure you are looking at your 1st semester of 8th grade grades. Press "ctrl+P" to print the page, but change the printer option to "Save as PDF" or "Print to PDF". Instead of printing, the document will be saved as a PDF. Click print/save to do this. If this does not work for you, you may send an image/jpeg/screenshot of your grade report. Or, you can contact your school's Records department and ask them to provide you a copy of your 8th grade grade report.
Notifications:
- Students currently in SHHS feeder schools will be notified of their status by email within two weeks of us receiving their completed application (including grade report).
- Students requesting School of Choice will be notified of their status by email by early April 2020.
- Students requesting IntraDistrict Transfer and Non-Resident acceptance will be notified of their status by email after district decisions are made regarding maximum school enrollment, likely by mid-May.
If applicable, your CCSD Admissions application MUST be completed in addition to this MYP Application. All admissions applications can be found on the CCSD Admissions website at:

Section 2: World Language
The IB Middle Years Program establishes World Language as a core subject that students are required to take each year of the program. Which language do you plan on taking?

If you are planning to take IB MYP Spanish and you are not certain which level you should start at (IB MYP Spanish 1 or IB MYP Spanish 2) we are offering a Spanish placement assessment. If you believe you should be in IB MYP Spanish 2, upon being accepted to the IB MYP Program, you will be offered the opportunity to take an online assessment of your Spanish proficiency. The assessment is created by our IB MYP Spanish teachers. The assessment will be provided around the end of February/beginning of March (or upon acceptance if Intra District Transfer or Out of District Applicant). The placement assessment will take approximately 60 min. We will contact you to provide you with the link and information for this assessment. Understand that we are providing this assessment in order to set you (students) up for success and place you in the correct Spanish level. The assessment is not required but it is very highly recommended.

In the final year of the Program (10th grade), each IB student is required to complete a Personal Project. This project culminates in a significant product or outcome. Each IB student chooses their own topic that is connected to a global context (see below). Students develop their criteria, and they plan, implement, and reflect on their processes and progress. QUESTION: What is something you have always aspired to do or more recently become very interested in? Is there a skill, outcome, or achievement you are inspired to realize? (ex. build a boat, start a new student organization, create your own business, run a marathon, play an instrument). Why are you interested in this endeavor?
