The Food and Agriculture Service Learning Internship

This internship is established to allow eligible students to gain leadership and entrepreneurial skills, working in agricultural businesses and coordinating sourcing for school nutrition program. Students in grades 11 or 12 who have been identified by school staff or parents/guardian to benefit by participating in the program may participate. 

1. An eligible student who participates in the program shall:
(1) Maintain a 2.5 or higher GPA
(2) Maintain at least a 90% attendance rate.
(3) Complete 5 hours per week of on-site agricultural internship
(4) Spend 2 hours per week coordinating breakfast and lunch sourcing with local producers and school nutrition education programing.
(5) Complete 1 hour per week of leadership, nutrition, and entrepreneurship curriculum
(6) The internship is divided into two 16-week cohorts. Students are required to participate in both cohorts to complete the program. Cohort 1: March 2 - June 26, Cohort 2: July 20 - November 13

2. Students may be able to earn course credit for their participation and should apply through their CTE Director or school counselor.

3. Students will receive a stipend of $1,390 per cohort upon completion of all internship requirements and presentations. Total stipend for completing both cohorts: $2,780

Eligibility Requirements
Students applying must:
● Be a junior or senior in high school.
● Maintain a 90% attendance rate (students unable to meet this may be transitioned out of the
program).
● Have no major attendance or discipline suspensions on record.
● Meet with their guidance counselor the semester prior to participation to discuss requirements
and qualifications.
● Arrange and maintain an internship placement for the duration of the semester.
● Maintain the minimum required hours for the internship; failure to do so may result in removal
from the program.
● Have reliable transportation to and from the internship site
References
● Two references are required:
1. One from a school administrator (e.g., counselor, teacher, or principal).
2. One from a non-family member.
● References must submit the attached recommendation form on the student’s behalf. It is the
student’s responsibility to ensure that each reference completes and submits the attached
recommendation form on their behalf.
