Syracuse "What The??" Biathlon Race and Fundraiser Relay
Online registration for the August 14th Syracuse Biathlon race has closed. Day of race entry will be available at the venue starting at 9am. Please contact with any questions before race day.

It's our last summer race of the season so it's time for a little fun. Things kick off with the "What the??" event - this is going to be a 3-shooting/4 running loop format. Consider it a long sprint or short pursuit format. Open competitors will be shooting prone/standing/prone and then finishing after their last prone shooting penalty loops. Novices will follow the same format except shooting prone three times if they choose using the large targets. The course is up in the air at the moment and we may throw something different at you this time.

After you finish, catch your breath because we're going to hold a 2-person relay race right after. Like in past years, this is going to be a fundraiser for one of our NY biathletes competing at or training for the US National Team. This year, donations will be going to Maddie Phaneuf who is back in training for the National Team. Maddie started out with the Old Forge club and worked her way up to the US Team and the 2018 Winter Olympic Team. After a recovery year off, Maddie is back into training mode and every few dollars makes a difference. So how does this work? The relay event is included in your entry fee but you can make donations to gain advantages or to disadvantage other teams. Options in past years have included:

Head start for your team
Make another team start late
Shoot paintball instead of rifles
Skip penalty loops
Purchase extra rounds
Put a member into a penalty box at the range

We'll certainly think up more options by race day and we're always open to blatant bribery. Bring $$$$ for a good cause as 100% of the donations go directly to Maddie.

Oh yeah, this is also the last chance to earn points for the Syracuse/Polar Bear Summer Points Series. The "What the??" event will count, including all three shooting bouts, but the relay will not.

Beginners are welcome and we will hold a mandatory rifle safety/biathlon orientation session the morning of the event. Use of a rifle and necessary ammo are included in the entry fee.

Distances will be finalized the day before the race but figure ~5km for the first event and ~3-4km for the relay.

Last but not least, we'll have paintball for the kids as long as we get some registrations for it by the 11th. Details at the paintball registration page -
