The 2026 Project 

Hello, I’m Ruth Medjber, a portrait photographer and storyteller from Ireland.

In 2020, I created a book called Twilight Together, photographing people at home during the pandemic through their windows. In 2026, I’m embarking on an even bigger project: 365 portraits and stories that capture the heartbeat of Ireland, told by the people who live here.

Every day in 2026, I’ll meet one person, have a chat, and take their photograph. I aim to capture each portrait beautifully, and I’ll also ask participants to share a story. This could be anything — a memory from childhood, a piece of folklore, or a simple account of their day. Think of it as a relaxed, casual conversation.

Participants can be people I’ve known for years or someone I’m meeting for the first time. Sessions can take place in homes, workplaces, at the beach, in cafés, or wherever feels comfortable. I hope to visit all 32 counties and every inhabited island (fingers crossed!).

This form is a way to connect with people who would like to take part. I’m looking for 365 volunteers from all walks of life and every corner of the country.

Please share this form with anyone who might be interested. You can also fill it out on someone else’s behalf, but please make sure they know and agree. The only requirement is that participants must be residents of Ireland (not tourists or short-term visitors).

If the project goes well, it may become an exhibition, a book, a podcast, or more. For this reason, participants will need to sign a standard model release, giving me permission to display the photos, audio, and other content as needed.

Everyone who takes part will receive a digital copy of their portrait to share online or print for their home once the project is finished.
