You are not alone. Parents in at least 16 schools across several school districts in the greater Houston area and across Texas have already signed up to opt out of STAAR to oppose the negative consequences of high stakes testing in our schools. Community Voices for Public Education will be offering meaningful instruction to children to Houston area children in grades 3-8 (plus grade 2 for those who opt out in solidarity with testing grades). This will include authentic reading, writing, and art activities, purposeful math, civics, etc. We will send each participating parent a more detailed agenda of each day's activities.
The location is the Live Oaks Friends Meeting House at 1318 W 26th St Houston, Tx. Instruction is 7:45-3:15 pm on April 20-22 with likelihood on April 23 depending on interest
Parents need to bring a snack and lunch for their child and the completed permission/media release form located at
houstoncvpe.org/opt_out.
