Help to complete your online tax return
If you need to complete a Self-Assessment tax return (SA) and wish to try it online, we at Tax Help for Older People can help you.

We have step-by-step guidance available to help you find your way into and around HMRC’s online tax return system.

Before and after we provide this help, we have a few questions to ask you, to help us improve the way we help clients. This information is kept confidential and your name is removed as soon as we receive your answers. If you are happy to continue with these questions, please click 'Next' below.

There are some instances where you will not be able to complete your tax return online; when you need to use other software or download other forms:
• for a partnership
• for a trust or estate
• if you lived abroad as a non-resident
• to report multiple ‘chargeable gains’, for example from life insurance
• if you get income from a trust, you’re a Lloyd’s underwriter or a religious minister

If none of the above apply, you can continue.
