Petition: Repayment of Wage Deductions to SUCU Members
For many staff at the University of Sheffield participating in the UCU Marking and Assessment Boycott (MAB), there has been a sharp disconnect between the amount of marking and assessment work which has been withheld, and the level of deductions taken to date and to be taken at the end of September. This constitutes a punitive response to taking part in legally called industrial action, especially when the 100% deduction is compared with 30% and 50% penalties at other universities. The unwillingness to engage in meaningful negotiations and the damaging alterations to marking that management has pursued in response to the MAB, have not only placed the University’s reputation at risk, but continue to harm students and staff.

We, the undersigned, are University of Sheffield staff and students who support the repayment of wages lost to UCU members taking part in the Marking and Assessment boycott as a show of good faith on the part of Management towards avoiding further strike action planned during intro week and week one. We all want to see an end to the industrial action and better working conditions, whether we are members of UCU or not.
