Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) 2 DAY Workshop Sign Up Sheet
VIA the LivingWorks website:

Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is a two-day interactive workshop in suicide first aid. ASIST teaches participants to recognize when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety. Although ASIST is widely used by healthcare providers, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop—anyone 16 or older can learn and use the ASIST model.

Since its development in 1983, ASIST has received regular updates to reflect improvements in knowledge and practice, and over 1,000,000 people have taken the workshop. Studies show that the ASIST method helps reduce suicidal feelings in those at risk and is a cost-effective way to help address the problem of suicide.

Learning goals and objectives

Over the course of their two-day workshop, ASIST participants learn to:

- Understand the ways that personal and societal attitudes affect views on suicide and interventions
- Provide guidance and suicide first aid to a person at risk in ways that meet their individual safety needs
- Identify the key elements of an effective suicide safety plan and the actions required to implement it
- Appreciate the value of improving and integrating suicide prevention resources in the community at large
- Recognize other important aspects of suicide prevention including life-promotion and self-care

Workshop features:

-Presentations and guidance from two LivingWorks registered trainers
-A scientifically proven intervention model
-Powerful audiovisual learning aids
-Group discussions
-Skills practice and development
-A balance of challenge and safety

ASIST in Aiken County
We have held 3 workshops and trained 32 ASIST caregivers in Aiken County so far this year. Our participant's backgrounds ranged from survivors of suicide, to average citizens, to professionals in the mental health and law enforcement fields. ASIST is a good fit for anyone 16+ interested in learning how to help those at risk.
This Sign Up Sheet
This sign up list is to gauge interest in our ASIST workshops, and will better help us schedule them as needed. Once enough people have signed up, we will begin to schedule a workshop. We will then send out a quick survey to see who is still interested and what days they are available before we solidify the workshop dates.
Before You Sign Up...
Before you sign up, there are a few important things to note about ASIST workshops:

- Workshops are held over 2 consecutive days, and you MUST ATTEND ALL PARTS OF BOTH DAYS to receive your certificate of completion and be eligible to take the exam for CEU's.

-There are fees associated with participating in these workshops. These fees vary depending on several factors, such as space rentals and food costs. We will attempt to access grants and/or donations to cover the fees whenever possible, but we cannot guarantee financial assistance will be available. This information will be included for your consideration in the email that will be sent when enough interested participants have signed up.

- CEU's are available if needed. Once you have completed both days of the ASIST workshop, you will receive a link to a page to take an exam about your training. These 12 CEU's are $60, and you will not be charged until you have passed the exam.

- If you have any special circumstances that we should know about, please let us know before the training. This could be due to a disability (such as needing certain aids), a recent loss, or even medical reasons. This will allow us the time to prepare whatever you might need while keeping the workshop in compliance with LivingWorks training standards.

Our Goal
Everyone deserves a shoulder to lean on when they need it most. That's why our goal is to train as many ASIST caregivers in Aiken County as we can. The more caregivers we have in our community, the more chances we have of helping people at risk of suicide choose life.
