Add/Drop an Additional CBS Major or a Minor (CBS Students Only)
Current CBS students should use this form to add/drop an additional major within CBS, or to add/drop a CBS minor. If you need to add an additional major or minor outside of CBS, please contact that major department for instructions. Your request will generally be processed within two weeks.  Please know that during times with a high volume of requests, it may take longer than two weeks to process your request. You will receive an email confirmation when the change has been made.

CBS students cannot double-major with Biology and are NOT eligible for the Biology minor due to significant course overlap.  Additionally, the following program combinations are not allowed due to course overlap:

  • Biology Majors: not eligible for any additional CBS major, Biochemistry, Behavioral Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biology, Plant Biology and Microbiology minors.
  • Biochemistry Majors: not eligible for the Biochemistry, Biology, Cell Biology and Genetics minor.
  • Neuroscience Majors: not eligible for Biology, Cell Biology, Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience, Genetics and Integrative Neuroscience minors.
  • Students in all majors cannot pursue both the Integrative and Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience minors.  
  • Plant and Microbial Biology Majors: not eligible for the Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, and Plant Biology minor.

Prerequisites
Some minors within CBS require completed prerequisites before being eligible to declare the minor. Please read the following prerequisites before completing this form. The minor cannot be added if the prerequisite is in progress.

-Behavioral Biology Minor
Students who have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better and have completed the Behavioral Biology Core course (EEB 3411, or EEB 3412W, or EEB 3811) with a C- or better will be eligible to declare the minor.

-Biochemistry Minor
Students must complete an introductory biology course and introductory chemistry course with a C- or better before declaring. 

-Biology Minor
No additional prerequisites required to add the minor

-Biotechnology Minor
No additional prerequisites required to add the minor

-Cell Biology Minor
No additional prerequisites required to add the minor

-Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience Minor
Students must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and complete the NSCI 3101 prerequisite course before declaring. Students may not complete both an Integrative Neuroscience and Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience minor.

-Computational Biology Minor
Students must complete an introductory biology course with a C- or better before declaring.

-Genetics Minor
No additional prerequisites required to add the minor

-Health and Genomics Minor
Students must complete an introductory biology course with a C- or better before declaring.

-Integrative Neuroscience Minor
Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA  and complete the NSCI 1001 prerequisite course before declaring. Students may not complete both an Integrative Neuroscience and Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience minor.

-Marine Biology Minor
Students must have a 2.0 GPA in their math and science courses and complete at least 3 prerequisite courses before declaring. Students must complete one of any of the following Biology courses: BIOL 1001, BIOL 1003, BIOL 1009, BIOL 1012, BIOL 1055, or BIOL 1951/1951H & 1961. Students must also complete both CHEM 1061/1081/1071H and CHEM 1065/1075H before declaring.

-Microbiology Minor
Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and complete three prerequisite courses before declaring. CBS students must complete MICB 3301 and BIOL 3022 before declaring.

-Pharmacology Minor
Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and complete an introductory biology course and introductory chemistry course with a C- or better before declaring.

-Plant Biology Minor
Students must complete an introductory biology course with a C- or better before declaring.
