Creating Fantasy Characters

Are you interested in creating fantasy/sci-fi characters for video games, movies, or comic books? This 3 hour workshop will cover the steps and ideas that go into creating a character concept. These will include choosing archetypes/tropes (examples: heroic knight, evil wizard), making silhouettes, choosing from different body types, gathering/studying/using reference materials, costume design, iterating (trying several variations), and finishing/presentation. Students will sketch their own characters as the instructor goes through these steps. Although most concept art is made digitally, this workshop will use traditional materials. Learning the fundamentals of character design does not require a computer. This class is designed for beginners and intermediates curious about the field of concept art.

Tuition: $65 (All materials are included, but feel free to bring your own markers or sketchbook if you prefer)

Location: Studio 1.6
