**This training will have a faith-based perspective and is being provided in partnership with support from our local faith community.
What is Youth Mental Health First Aid?
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based training course designed to give members of the community skills to help an adolescent who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
The 8-hour course covers a range of common disorders and potential crises such as helping a young person who is having a panic attack, contemplating suicide or struggling with substance abuse.
Who should take a Youth Mental Health First Aid Course?
This course is designed for adults who work with or are around youth ages 12-18 on a regular basis including
(but not limited to): Faith leaders, teachers, coaches, youth program & school staff and more.
YMHFA certification is good for 3 years. Training, manual & lunch will be provided.
This training is FREE and Space is limited - Please register as soon as possible.
The coordination and cost of the course has been covered by a generous anonymous local donor and Healthy Park County.
Trainer Bio:
David Galvan has been teaching, training, and facilitating conversations with students and adults about healthy relationships since 2010. With a presence in 25 plus Middle & High School campuses across primarily the Front Range. He his personally spoken to over 26,000 students. For the past 4 years, David has been working with suicide prevention and mental health awareness with students, adults and faith communities; helping to reduce stigma around mental health, and encouraging students to know they are needed, loved, and valued. On a county level, he is a part of the El Paso County Youth Suicide Prevention Workgroup where he chairs the Faith-based subgroup as well as a member of its steering committee. David is a certified trainer in Youth Mental Health First Aid [YMHFA] and has trained over 700 community members. In addition to YMHFA trainings in the community, he also facilitates trainings as a certified trainer of Teen Mental Health First Aid [tMHFA] and Adverse Childhood Experiences [ACES]. He is dedicated to the mission that every student should have healthy, non-violent relationships, and have access to help, healing and hope.
