What would you love to contribute to the festival?

We’d love to hear about what you’d like to share! Whether it’s a performance, a creative activity, a cultural tradition, a workshop, or something completely unique—tell us what you have in mind in your own words. No pressure to be formal—we’re just excited to learn more and if it lights you up, we’re interested!

Example:
“I play traditional drumming music and would love to teach basic rhythms while explaining the meaning behind the instruments.”

Example: “I’d love to perform a short shadow puppet show and teach kids how to make their own puppets from recycled materials.”

Are you available for the following:

We want to make it's easy for you to share your creativity in a way that feels natural and exciting for you!

• Station/Table Setup (All Day): You are able to manage a table or activity space where you can interact with families as they explore the festival. Great for hands-on activities, exhibits, or chill creative zones!

Select Your Spotlight Time(s)

During these featured 30-minute windows, the DJ will pause the music and our emcee (DJ Lance Rock from Yo Gabba Gabba!) will invite youth and families to check out your performance, demonstration, or presentation.

These sessions can take place at your table OR on the indoor stage—whatever fits your vision! Select as many separate time slots as you’d like so we can do our best to coordinate the schedule around each presenter—flexibility is a BIG help on this front.

How many times would you like to perform/present in a Spotlight each day (or the one day, if you're not joining us for both)?

Do You Have Any Previous Experience with Live Demonstrations or Workshops?

Do you need anything for your setup—like a table, chairs, microphone, speaker, outlet access, or help connecting a device to a display? Let us know what would make your presentation/table work best!
Do you have any accessibility needs or specific support requests? *

Will you be inviting any personal guests?

This helps us plan for passes and perks—we’d love to include your people!

Required

If yes, please specify HOW MANY youth and/or adult guests you expect to bring.

Rough estimates in each category are totally fine—we just want to make sure everyone’s covered!

Bonus: All kids attending with you will receive a free Discovery Cube pass, one free carousel ride, and access to all Create Now activities and take-home crafts! So definitely note how many of your guests are children.

(Write N/A if you won't be inviting any personal guests)

Additional Comments or Questions

Agreements & Expectations

Please read carefully before submitting your form. These guidelines help ensure a safe, respectful, and joyful experience for all—especially our youth.

Please also note that all volunteers must check in at the start of their shift and sign out before leaving

How to Engage with Youth Mindfully

Create Now serves young people ages 3 to 24, many of whom have experienced trauma, instability, or marginalization. To ensure all youth feel safe, respected, and empowered, please follow these principles during the event:

● Speak to youth with kindness, clarity, and patience—never condescension or correction in a public or harsh way.

● Always allow youth autonomy in their creative process—there are no “wrong” art choices.

● Refrain from physical contact unless necessary (e.g., high-fives are fine if offered, but always ask or model first).

● Be mindful of body language and tone—some youth may be easily startled or overwhelmed.

● If a young person seems upset, disengaged, or overstimulated, ask if they’d like a quiet space or break. Do not force participation.

● Never ask personal questions about a youth’s background, family, or identity.

If you are unsure how to respond to a situation, please flag down a staff member. We’re here to support you, too!

Liability Waiver & Release

Please read and agree to the following waiver in order to participate as a volunteer with Create Now:

I understand that by volunteering at the Power of the Arts Festival, I am participating in an event that may involve physical activity, art materials, outdoor conditions, or other interactive elements. I acknowledge that there are inherent risks involved in volunteering at a public event, including minor injury or accidents.

I hereby waive, release, and hold harmless Create Now, its staff, event partners, affiliates, sponsors, Discovery Cube Los Angeles, and all associated personnel from any and all liability, claims, or demands arising from or related to my participation in this volunteer role.

I confirm that I am volunteering of my own free will, and I assume full responsibility for my conduct during the event. I also agree to follow all safety instructions given by Create Now staff and to conduct myself in a respectful, professional, and youth-centered manner throughout the event.

Youth Safety Declaration

Because this event involves working directly with youth, all volunteers must confirm the following:

I affirm that:

I have never been convicted of a crime involving harm to a child or any offense that would legally prohibit me from working with minors.

I am not currently on probation or parole for any violent, sexual, or child-related offense.

I understand that any false statement or omission may result in immediate removal from the event and disqualification from future volunteer opportunities with Create Now.

Media & Photo Release

Create Now events are sometimes photographed or filmed for promotional, documentation, and fundraising purposes. By volunteering at this event, you acknowledge that your image may be captured in photos or video.

If you would prefer not to appear in media materials, please let a staff member know at check-in and we will provide you with a discrete indicator.

Final Required Agreement

I have read and agree to all of the above: the volunteer expectations, youth engagement guidelines, liability waiver, media release, and youth safety declaration.
