A Study of "Sacred Companions" by David G. Benner
The North Carolina Institute for Spiritual Direction and Formation is offering a seven-session book study on David Benner’s book, “Sacred Companions.” The sessions will be held via zoom, weekly on Monday evenings beginning September 14, 2020 through October 26, 2020, from 7:00-8:30 pm. There is no charge for this offering but donations to support the work of the institute will be welcomed. The sessions will be facilitated by members of the faculty for the NC Institute for Spiritual Direction and Formation. The only requirement is that you are able to utilize zoom and a commitment to each of the sessions, unless something very important gets in the way.
We are offering these sessions for persons who have expressed serious interest in being a part of the Spiritual Direction Training Institute and are discerning a call to the ministry of spiritual direction and for continuing education for those who are already trained as Spiritual Directors. “Sacred Companions” offers an important blend of the wisdom of Christian spirituality and psychological insights in helping us to learn about the art of spiritual friendship and spiritual direction. Benner helps us to understand the deeper, transformative work of spiritual direction versus mentoring or discipling Our sessions will focus on 1-2 chapters at a time and small group reflection will be the larger share of each session. Participants are expected to read the chapters before each session in order to fully participate in the discussion.
We are excited to get to know each one of you better as we come together to share.
