How we define Democratic Innovation?

Any process which gives citizens meaningful power in shaping societies in ways that go beyond the existing basics of voting in elections/referenda and responding to consultations. 

Nomination Criteria
  • A current or former elected politician at any level of government (national, subnational, or local) in a democratic country, including both full and flawed democracies as classified by the Economist Democracy Index.
  • Has demonstrated outstanding commitment to democratic excellence through actions, reforms, or leadership that strengthen participation, accountability, transparency, inclusion, or institutional integrity for the benefit of their constituents.
  • Has played a leading or pioneering role in advancing such practices within their political or national context, setting a precedent or raising standards for democratic governance.
  • Has delivered these contributions within the 21st century (since the year 2000), with clear and tangible impact.
