What is the Macomb Food Collaborative? The Macomb Food Collaborative was founded in 2011 to convene food systems stakeholders to increase information exchange and synergistic activities. An outgrowth of these gatherings was an annual food systems focused conference. The MFC has hosted seven previous conferences, showcasing the talents of more than 150 industry leaders and community members while drawing an average of 120 guests per event.
Our goals as a local, non-profit are: To boost access to local food; promote sustainability and a vibrant local food economy by educating consumers, growers, small-business and non-profits and connecting people to the resources they need to plant, grow, buy, sell, prepare, preserve, share and eat food.
Speaker search:The 2019 conference theme is Macomb Food Momentum. We seek conference speakers who can offer engaging sessions to illustrate growth, change, transitions or needs to be addressed in our food system. There will be two types of sessions offered at this years’ event:
1) Presentation. A 60 minute presentation related to the theme, which should be engaging and participatory. Panels are acceptable. Hands-on activities are encouraged, but not required.
2) Facilitated discussion. A 60 minute session that will focus on a particular need or gap to be addressed in the local food system, facilitating solutions-based discussion. The intent is that participants will leave with actionable items from these sessions. Applicants are encouraged to apply in a team of two or more. The conference planning team can assist with recruiting interested and active participants for these sessions.
Unless previously agreed upon, speakers are not reimbursed for their services and are responsible for their own mileage.
Time slots are available in the morning and afternoon for 60 minutes. We will try to accommodate preferences, but cannot make advance guarantees. The Macomb Food Collaborative will provide each speaker with one entry fee, a room moderator, laptop, Wi-Fi connection and projection screen. Additional entry fees may be extended to those who require assistance in setting up or delivering their presentation. Speakers are required to provide other necessary equipment, unless prior arrangements have been made.
Submissions should be completed by COB December 17th, 2018. You will be notified regarding selection in early January.
