This is a course based on one of our most-loved offerings -- 2025's weekend-workshops on the short story.
We will specifically study fiction (both short and long) that employs surrealism and falls into the categories and techniques of weird-fiction, magic realism and the absurd. Think Kelly Link, Jose Saramago, Carmen Maria Machado, Mashiul Alam etc.
We will consider what becomes possible when using absurdity, exaggeration, contrivance or the strange as a narrative strategy. Involves readings and discussion of selected texts as well as writing, and workshopping in small groups.
Dates: August 2026
Event Timing: Weekend - Saturday + Sunday 11 am - 1 pm ; Weekday - Weds + Thurs 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
