IPF Atid Boston—Growing Up in the Oslo Era With Barak Sella
Join IPF Atid Boston for an engaging dinner and discussion with Barak Sella as he shares insights about growing up in the Oslo era. Born in Texas, Barak will reflect on his family's decision to return to Israel in the wake of the Oslo Accords, which was largely influenced by the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. Barak will provide us with a firsthand perspective on what it was like to come of age in a time when the prospect of peace was so close with reflections about the effects of Rabin's assassination, the impact of failed peace negotiations, and how these events continue to shape Israeli society. Drawing from his role as the director of the Reut Institute, Barak will also provide insights into the current state of diplomatic affairs and the practicality of achieving peace in the current landscape.

Barak Sella is an expert in Israel-US Relations and World Jewry, and he previously served as the Director of the Reut Institute, one of Israel's foremost think tanks on strategy and leadership. Barak holds a Master's degree in North American Jewish Studies from the University of Haifa and is currently pursuing a mid-career MPA at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Born in Texas, Barak moved to Israel in 1994, exactly one year before the Rabin assassination. This event deeply affected him and became an inseparable part of his socialization in Israeli society. As a leader in one of Israel's most prominent youth movements, Barak spent his adult years educating youth all over Israel about Rabin's legacy and the importance of peace and democracy. Additionally, he served as the spokesperson for the National Rabin Memorial Rally in Tel Aviv for three years and published the first literary anthology dedicated to the Rabin assassination, titled "Class of 95." In his former role as a central emissary for Habonim Dror North America, Barak founded the "Stand Up for Democracy" coalition, which is dedicated to promoting Rabin Memorial Day in North America.
