Workshop in Open Fields Volunteer Application
Workshops in Open Fields has been nationally recognized and celebrated by the National Endowment of the Arts and CNN. Founder, Dr. Vivian Ayers, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her poetry, honored by NASA, and recognized nationally as a trailblazer for cultural activism. She was recently honored on the African American History Calendar. She graduated from Brainerd in 1939 and is actively involved now in reopening this historic site for artistic and educational enrichment. Her daughters Phylicia Rashad and Debbie Allen are championing this movement to bring national attention to the work being done here in Chester at Brainerd Institute through Brainerd Institute Heritage organization.

You will receive an official signed certificate and personalized letter of recommendation from the Brainerd Institute Heritage Board of Directors, honoring your participation in this ground-breaking initiative.
