Get Involved with ECPS
Our coalition passed the Empowering Communities for Public Safety (ECPS) ordinance, which creates a city-wide Community Commission on Public Safety, with the power to determine policy for the Chicago Police Department and the Civilian Office of Police Accountability. It also creates local District Councils within each police district with the power to address local public safety concerns and appoint the members of the city-wide Commission.
We will be tabling in wards/police districts throughout the city to encourage people directly affected by police violence to apply to be district councilors, and to gain support for a referendum that will make the city-wide Commission directly elected by the people.
We are also seeking people who are interested in applying to be part of the interim Community Commission on Public Safety, to be selected by December 2021. We are prioritizing applicants who have been, or have family members who have been, affected by the violence of CPD.
Please fill out your information below if you are interested in getting involved.
