National Latinx base-building Mijente is sounding a call for a Day of Action led by Latinx folks, many undocumented, who have been fighting on the frontlines of crimmigration (criminalization+immigration) for many years. As Unitarian Universalists we have been called by Mijente to act in solidarity on Monday, July 2nd to San Diego, CA.
We are called as people of faith to end the separation of families - of immigrant families knowing that it alongside the legacy and current reality of the separation of Black families and indigenous families. As people of faith and justice, we believe we answer to a higher law of love and justice than the failed laws of this land that are harming our communities.
UUA and Side with Love staff will be there in San Diego on July 2nd to show that we refuse to play the game of who is worthy of humanity and who is not. We reject false solutions like the idea that the way to keep families together is to put them in detention together. Such Zero Tolerance policies will continue to criminalize migration and immigrant communities. Will you join Mijente alongside Black liberation, LGBTQ liberation and faith communities in San Diego on Monday, July 2 to #AbolishICE, #ShutDownSessions, and #FreeOurFuture? From supporting the Direct Action on July 2 to providing housing, transportation and other support - you're invited to join us.
Please sign up by June 30, 2018 if at all possible. There is a UU prep call on Friday June 29th at 8pm EST/5pm PST. All who register will receive zoom link and call in information.
This is not a conference. This is an action. Plan to be responsible for our own housing, transportation and food. Some hospitality support will be offered and prioritized for People of Color, youth and young adults, working class and poor people.
