Title: Chasing Coral
Coral reefs around the world are vanishing at an unprecedented rate. Divers, photographers and scientists set out on an ocean adventure to discover why the reefs are disappearing and to reveal the underwater mystery to the world.
Dates: February 28, 2018
Times: 10 AM & 12 noon; 91 minutes film run length
Length of Event: 2 hours with Film + 30 min Q&A
Location: Lincoln Theater - 1215 U St NW, Washington, DC 20009
Discipline: Feature Documentary Film - Geography, marine sciences/oceans/deep sea diving/underwater filming/

Curriculum Connections: The interdisciplinary lesson plans were developed in collaboration with teachers of different disciplines in hopes that any 6th-8th grade teacher could adapt them for his or her classroom. All curriculum components
encourage students to work in the style of the Chasing Coral team: diving into complex, autonomous research and embarking on a creative expression of the discoveries. While the lessons rely on scientific content and encourage students to employ scientific methodology in their thinking, they also encourage the mastery of more general skills such as observation, evidence-based conjecture, critical thinking, artistic expression, creative writing, collaboration, and reading
comprehension. The lessons are intended to put students in the role of investigator, teacher, or translator, while teachers play the question master or coach.
