Hello🤗 My name is Naomi Bean-Smith I'm a 19 year old college student and this is my story!

I didn't have the type of family life you would want a child to have growing up. My mother and father were separated when I was young and I was moved from home to home. There were periods of times where I was raised by my dad's mom my nana. I didn't have the consistent home life needed to nurture a child with warmth stability and safety that children need. My life was filled with emotional abuse, chaos, and adversity.

I started out as a bright young girl who performed well in school. I liked my teachers and to everyone I seemed okay even though I was never really taught right from wrong. In fact, I received misguided instructions from one of my parents, which in turn got me in trouble with a law at a very early age. I was put on probation and held accountable to pay for the damage with a fine of a little over $10,000 at the age of 11.

I had a really hard time in high school and ended up dropping out, I started to display a "rebellious" attitude, I began doing drugs, and I fell into the wrong crowd. I didn't have my mother or my father to help me be on the right path. Both of my parents have been in trouble with the law and had drug issues and I had started following down their same footsteps.

Fortunately, being placed on probation helped me find positive role models from which to draw upon who served to help me shape my future. I finally caught a break and and my probation officer allowed me to be a part of the youth drug court program. Although it took me a couple tries to get it right, I soon found the inner strength to start making the right choices and turn my life around!

I credit these positive role models with teaching me the life lessons that I had missed, and this provided me with the confidence necessary to break the cycle that was keeping me from success. I earned high praise from my probation officers Laurie and Kati, my wrap around counselor Joshua, my youth partners Nicole and Alexa, and my amazing boyfriend who provided the emotional support needed along the way.

I enrolled in a program called YOOP shortly after my 16th birthday, within a few months of some hard studying, and a bit of tutoring from the YOOP staff I completed my GED! I then went on and didn't internship through YOOP involving online sales. There I discovered my cunning work ethic. My strive to better myself led the YOOP staff to challenge me by setting me up with another internship at the Housing Authority of Yamhill County. there I was coached and mentored on how to manage an office and keep productivity up it was an amazing learning experience for me and I left with amazing job references!

A few short months after my internship ended, I graduated from drug court with flying colors as well as being released from probation! Everyone was so proud to see me succeed and I was so proud of myself! I credit the YOOP program staff for giving me the courage to complete the GED and gain the job skills necessary to be successful. If it wasn't for all of my accomplishments throughout that time I would probably still be using and my life would still feel worthless.

Because of all of the struggles I have had in my life and all of the amazing people I have come across especially my very first probation officer Laurie, I've decided that I want to go to college, get a bachelor's degree in criminal justice and become a "Laurie".

I know what I want and I am taking the steps to make this happen! I joined this business a little bit over a month ago and let me tell you I am so happy that I did! I just ranked for Ruby. I'm starting college next month for the career that I want and I'm hoping that soon with this amazing business I won't have to work my full-time job as well as going to school full-time. I'm so excited to see what this business has in store for me!
