Winter 2024 MWS Groups Registration / Interest Form
If you'd like to participate in a "Me and White Supremacy" book + supplemental learning group with Rise Up Rooted, please answer the questions below. If there is still space in the group you want to join, the cost is a one time fee of $100 (or whatever else you might want to contribute to help sustain the work) to support your spot. Thank you! THESE GROUPS ARE ALL ON ZOOM.

The interactive book "Me and White Supremacy" was written by Layla F. Saad, a Black woman, to provide white-bodied and white-presenting people a reflective guide on how internalized white supremacy (settler/occupier white culture) affects their thoughts and behaviors. Here is one of Layla's video introductions to the book content (you will hear her reference it as an Instagram challenge, which it was at that time-- and now it's a book). These learning groups offer additional tools to support processing and moving through the painful process of unpacking one's internalized white supremacy.

It is designed to be a 28-day challenge, with 28 journal prompt themes for each of those days. In my experience facilitating these groups, that pace is difficult to sustain if participants are digging deeply into the material (and needing to juggle work, kids, etc.). I have tried different patterns of engagement, and have found the most natural rhythm seems to be a 9-week pattern, outlined here. You can more information about these groups on the Rise Up Rooted website: https://www.riseup-rooted.org/learning-groups/

There will be three offerings this winter. All are a 9-week (1x a week) commitment. If you would like to join a group this winter, please choose which ones work for you.

This may seem like a daunting commitment, but it's big, important work, and the 1.5 hours each gathering fly by, and by the end of the series, most people can't believe how fast the 9 weeks went.

Note: These were originally scheduled for starting a week earlier, and have been postponed to the dates you see below.
There will be about 30-60 minutes of at-home work per week. Are you able to commit to that?
