Rights in Focus: Abortion & Press Freedom at Risk

Parallel Event at the NGO Commission on the Status of Women Forum

Monday, March 6, 10:30 a.m. EST at Salvation Army Lower Level (221 E. 52nd St., New York, NY 10022)

Reporting on reproductive rights can be fraught with risks for both journalists and sources. When the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, journalists throughout the country faced a legal minefield as new draft legislation cropped up (or disappeared) overnight. However, for many journalists, from Brazil to Poland, reporting on abortion in restrictive environments has long been a reality. This event will bring together journalists, press freedom advocates, and reproductive rights experts to discuss the evolving legal and policy environments in the U.S. and globally. Panelists will explore how the shifting legislative landscape may affect journalists reporting on abortion.

  • Nadine Hoffman, Deputy Director, International Women's Media Foundation
