Thank you for your interest in serving on the Research Committee.
Mission: The Research Committee's purpose is to represent and advocate for the interests of the research-active faculty at GUMC regarding policies, procedures, operations, facilities, and other matters that affect the research enterprise at Georgetown University Medical Center. The Research Committee represents the research-active faculty at GUMC irrespective of type of appointment, rank, or appointment track, including both University-employed and MedStar-employed faculty. These individuals are hereafter referred to as “GUMC research faculty.”
The Research Committee's primary role is to advise the GUMC Vice President for Biomedical Education and Research regarding decisions relevant to the research enterprise at GUMC. The Research Committee may, at its discretion, also directly advise the EVP of GUMC or the President of the University regarding decisions relevant to the research enterprise at GUMC. GUMC leadership is expected to seek the advice of the Research Committee prior to any decision that significantly impacts the research enterprise at GUMC.
Membership needs:The Research Committee is seeking one (1) senate appointee and several administrative appointees depending on turnover of current members. As a reminder, an administrative appointee holds the same responsibilities as all members of a committee. A senate appointee holds the same responsibilities as other committee members, may be asked to inform the Medical Center Caucus - Faculty Senate about the work of the committee, and is selected by the Medical Center Caucus - Faculty Senate. You do not need to be a member of the senate to serve as a senate appointee. If you choose that you are interested in the senate appointee role, but you are not selected, you will automatically be considered for an administrative appointee role.
IMPORTANT: In order to qualify for this committee as a senate or administrative appointee, you must be a full-time faculty member. Adjunct faculty are not eligible to be members of the research committee. You must also have an active research program.
This committee meets on the second Tuesday of the month from 10:30 AM - 12 PM via Zoom. Please contact Meaghan Rutland (mkl86@georgetown.edu) for further information or questions.
