East Carolina University
The North Carolina Dance Education Organization, in partnership with the School of Theatre and Dance at East Carolina University, invites proposals for sessions at its ninth annual conference. This day-long conference serves as a premier professional development opportunity for North Carolina dance educators from a range of dance teaching and cultural contexts. We look forward to welcoming you for a day of in-person dance and dialogue as we connect, move, and collectively strategize for ways that dance continues to demonstrate imagination and innovation.
Everyone has a spark within their minds where endless possibilities converge, where imagination and innovation introduce exciting opportunities. Our creative thinking enables us to thrive and excel, driving our art forward.
Each day we witness amazing learning in our dance studios and classrooms, from the tiny victories of ah-ha moments to extraordinary transformations as students realize their artistic dreams. This year, we celebrate the "Imagination and Innovation" that emerges from our studios and classrooms, and from our creative work and research.
Through movement and conversation, we will ask:
How do we demonstrate and celebrate imagination and innovation in our dance classrooms and larger communities?
What “new” ideas about dance and dance pedagogy are emerging in our studios and classrooms?
How is technology affecting dance in education?
How do we show the multiple layers of dance education, including creativity, problem-solving, interpersonal communication, and embodied learning?
How do we engage our expertise in creative problem-solving to answer the challenge of innovation?
How can moving bodies serve as a source of innovation?
How can we nourish ourselves through our cultural practices and diverse movement forms so we can continue to innovate without burnout?
What new approaches/ideas am I applying in my studio or classroom?
Proposal submissions are due by 11:59 pm on Sunday, January 12.
We hope you will join us to explore these questions through an enriching day of dialogue and dance as we continue to expand the tradition of outstanding dance education in North Carolina.
