Program Description: The
Coalition of Texans with Disabilities (CTD) is recruiting people with disabilities and their family members who are interested in learning about Texas legislative advocacy, and who are willing to commit to a program of training, workshops, and advocacy events. Participants will get hands-on experience during the 90th Texas Legislature, starting in December 2026.
This is not your basic advocacy training! The Advocacy Corps (A-Corps) will train the next generation of disability advocates to educate decision-makers, break down stereotypes and barriers, and promote independence for all Texans with disabilities.
- Participate in all A-Corps training exercises. Participation is required, but CTD recognizes that conflicts arise, and we will be flexible to the greatest extent possible.
- Participate regularly in Raise Your Voice (RYV) virtual calls with advocates across the state. Participation is recommended (not required) and will help you get the most of your A-Corps experience. Raise Your Voice takes place every Monday through mid-May. Register separately for Raise Your Voice.
- Collaborate with CTD staff in educating decision-makers during the Legislative Session (In-District and in Austin).
- A-Corps is funded 75% through the Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities. Specific paperwork is necessary for the grant and may include demographic data, satisfaction surveys, activity reports and personal stories. You must be willing to provide all information requested.
CTD’s expert advocacy team will commit to:
- Providing in-depth training in policy issues and advocacy skills. We will discuss policy issues, how the issues could be addressed, and how to effectively communicate your message to decision-makers.
- Connecting with you to support your retention and success.
- Provide ongoing resources and advocacy training opportunities. The A-Corps is part of a five-year grant, and return participants will be welcome!
- CTD may be able to provide travel assistance when funds are available.
