Join our email list and learn more about how you can help us bring a powerful chess education teacher training program to New Mexico!
We aim to model our program off of similar state wide Chess in Education efforts carried out in
Alabama and
New Hampshire.
Here are some videos from these initiatives:
About this effort: This effort is being organized by leaders at Learners Chess, a New Mexico non-profit organization with the mission to use chess as an educational tool for the development of our youth. We are working with the national organization, Chess in Education - U.S. We currently work with nearly one thousand students each year teaching them chess in our program. But our efforts are currently limited and there are thousands of students who we simply cannot reach. We believe that by bringing a group like Chess in Education - US to New Mexico to run chess education teacher trainings, the number of kids learning chess in New Mexico can multiply and the accessibility to chess learning will expand beyond just those whose parents can either afford it or apply for the necessary scholarships.
We are working to reach out to leaders at APS, NMPED, the NM Legislature and any other important decision makers who can help fund and coordinate to bring this game changing program to New Mexico.
The ultimate goal is for this initiative to be in close coordination with NMPED and for all funding to come from the NM Legislature and go through NMPED.
We aim to start this initiative so a pilot program may start in the summer before the 25/26 school year and the initial funding for this first pilot year, may have to come from pots of money other than the NM Legislature (i.e., school districts, city government funds, county government funds, NMPED funds already earmarked for professional development, private sponsors, etc.).
This page is the beginning steps for us to organize and demonstrate interest in creating a New Mexico Chess in Education Initiative.
