Spring 2021 Season Sign Up
Spring semester, Project #1: Singing for Community (Jan. 25 - Mar. 8)
-As we reconvene and reconnect to each other, and BVS at large, we'll spend several weeks in online rehearsals learning new songs with beautiful harmonies that empower us with the strength of community. We'll also revisit some "old chestnuts" that meet the moment. After four rehearsals, those who are interested will have the opportunity to sing together outside in one or more "pop-up" performances of the music we've rehearsed. Locations TBD, but social distancing and mask protocols will be required. (If you have suggestions of outdoor performance locations, please reach out to me directly!)
Spring semester, Project #2: Where We Find Ourselves (April 5 - June 28)
-In celebration of BVS' 20th anniversary season, our final project is centered on a brand new, five-movement, commissioned work by Michael Bussewitz-Quarm. Beginning with online rehearsals in April, we will explore the music and its inspiration, a book that explores the pioneering portrait photography of Hugh Mangum and his subjects in the Jim Crow south during the years 1897-1922. This project will culminate in a performance in June. Depending on COVID levels, the performance could take place in several different ways. In all likelihood, however, when we perform (as a large group, in smaller groups/sections, or individually), the performance will have to be recorded and put online for our audience. We will, of course, be following the COVID situation very closely and make an informed decision on performance format and recording procedures in the spring.
The cost to participate in the entire semester is $150. If you wish to choose an a la carte option, Project #1 is $75. and Project #2 is $115. Payment requests will be sent out via Paypal after completing the Google Form. It is expected to be completed by the first rehearsal of the season.
