MASSP Registration - 5 Practices - Summer 2024 Book Study (Virtual)
Five Practices for Equity-Focused School Leadership
by Sharon I. Radd, Gretchen Givens Generett, Mark Anthony Gooden and George Theoharis
Series facilitated by Lisa Carlson, Principal of Woodland Elementary, and Elizabeth Vaught, MDE Principal Support

Want to engage your school community in transformative systemic change? This timely and essential book provides a comprehensive guide for school leaders who desire to engage their school communities in transformative systemic change. The authors offer five practices to increase educational equity and eliminate marginalization based on race, disability, socioeconomics, language, gender and sexual identity, and religion. For each dimension of diversity, the authors provide background information for understanding the current realities in schools and beyond, and they suggest “disruptive practices” to replace the status quo in order to achieve full inclusion and educational excellence for every child.

The purpose of this series is to provide for school leaders:
-time to read about and reflect on the five practices, and explore their own identities,
-opportunities to share and discuss book topics with colleagues, and
-support and tools to use with staff to identify areas for change or refinement, and put these changes into practice.

Each session will contain time for small group discussion and individual reflection. There will be opportunities for leaders to deepen their thinking and explore next steps related to book topics.
