Let Us Communicate Independent Parent Support Group - Membership Registration Form
Let Us Communicate Independent Parent Support Group (LUC) is much more than just a place to talk and share views. LUC is a place for you to turn negatives into positives.

It is now properly recognised and demonstrated in the SEND reforms that we, the parents and carers of children with additional needs, are the real experts in deciding what care and support our children and young adults need.

It is enshrined in the Children and Families Act 2014 that the local authority must have regard to the views, wishes and feelings of the child, young person and parent/carer in relation to care and service provision and that they should be fully enabled to participate in decisions relating to those services. In essence this means your voice can, indeed must, be listened to by your local authority – Newham Council.

By bringing together our collective experiences and views in the LUC support group we can focus on solutions and work in partnership with service providers to improve support and care for our children and young people.

To bring those views and experience together we need you to become a member of the support group.

Becoming a Member
You can begin by simply providing us with some basic details on the form below. For your information, to be a member, you must be a parent or carer of someone aged 0-25 who you consider to have a disability or additional need and either you or the child/young adult must live in Newham. This includes parents/carers of those children attending out of borough schools/residential provision whose education/care is funded by Newham. We use the term carers to include foster carers and anyone who regularly spends time caring for a disabled person and who is not paid to do so. We will never share your details with third parties and will only use anonymous details to support our aim of providing better services for children and families.

How to get involved
* Here are simple things parents and carers can do to help get our voices heard:
* Make sure your nursery, school and college knows about LUC by telling your SENCO
* Put up a LUC poster anywhere you think a parent or carer of a child with a disability might see it such as GP surgery, children centres, a baby clinic, a library, place of worship or a school notice board.
* Tell the health professionals you work with (eg occupational therapist, speech therapist, ABA consultants etc).
* Come to LUC workshops and meetings
