WELCOME SOCIAL JUSTICE EDUCATORS!
We want to thank you for your interest in the Supporting Liberatory Learning: Creating the Next Generation of Change Agents course.
Dr. Shawn Ginwright wrote “Social Justice Youth Development is strengthened by YOUTH AND ADULT ALLIES working together with a common vision of social justice. This requires that adults take seriously their own development and that youth workers shift how they conceptualize youth development.” It is with this in mind that OEA remains committed to providing educators with the resources & professional learning opportunities needed to support our young people.
Course Purpose: To effectively support liberation in educational contexts and beyond, educators and professionals, must first examine their own relationship with power (e.g., What is power? What power do I have? What is my relationship with my power? How do I support youth in the budding awareness of their own power?).
In this course learners will examine the dynamics of power and privilege and increase their capacity to scaffold and support the socio-emotional development of NYC youth and create empowering environments in which they can exercise their voice and agency. Courses will be held bi-weekly.
