Invitation to participate in the First Workshop for Indigenous Astronomy in the Classroom
NEW INFORMATION: The workshop will be held in the Ontario Institute for the Study of Education rm 5150. The session s will be from 9 am - 12 and 1 - 4 on Nov 2 and 9 - 12 on Nov 3.
This form is an invitation to participate in the First Workshop for Indigenous Astronomy in the Classroom to be held on November 2-3, 2017. The workshop will be held at the Ontario Institute for the Study of Education and has a capacity of about 50 attendees. The goal of this workshop is to bring Indigenous scholars, astronomers and educators to work on enhancing Indigenous knowledge in the astronomy classroom, to building connections between astronomers and Indigenous communities and develop protocols for motivating more Indigenous people to participate in STEM and astronomy education. We hope you will choose to attend and contribute to a community working to create a diverse astronomy curriculum that is inclusive of and honors Indigenous knowledge and ways of thinking.
The draft program of the meeting is as follows:
November 2 (morning): How do we enhance Indigenous knowledge in the astronomy classroom
November 2 (afternoon): How do we build connections between astronomer and Indigenous communities?
November 3: How do we motivate more Indigenous people to participate in STEM and education?
