Position Title: San Jose @Work Support 

Volunteer times: (In person or on zoom) M,T,W,TH 1-3pm (just on zoom) M,T,W,TH 10am-12pm

Purpose of the Role:
CityTeam@Work seeks dedicated volunteers to support clients in our workforce development program. You’ll help clients develop essential skills, boost confidence, and prepare for a successful professional and financial future.


Volunteer Opportunities:
Volunteers can contribute in one of the following four areas:

  1. Resume Reviews:

    • M,T,W,TH 10am-12pm (women) and 1pm-3pm (men) - In person strongly preferred.

    •  Work one-on-one with clients to review and refine their resumes.

    • Provide guidance on formatting, content optimization, and tailoring resumes for specific roles or industries.

    • Offer constructive feedback to ensure clients present their best professional selves.

  2. Mock Interviews:

    • M,T,W,TH 10am-12pm (women) and 1pm-3pm (men) - In person or Zoom.

    • Conduct practice interviews with clients to help them build confidence and improve their interview skills.

    • Provide tips on body language, communication, and answering challenging questions effectively.

    • Share insights into common interview practices in various industries.

  3. Teacher’s Aide:

    • M,T,W,TH 10am-12pm (women) and 1pm-3pm (men) - In person.

    • Assist students with technical issues during their lessons or assignments.

    • Provide support by answering questions and clarifying instructions related to their coursework.

    • Offer guidance to help students stay on track and achieve success in their studies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Commit to at least one volunteer opportunity area (Resume Reviews, Mock Interviews or Teacher’s Aide).

  • Prepare for sessions by reviewing provided materials and resources.

  • Maintain a professional, compassionate, and supportive attitude toward clients.

  • Provide actionable and personalized feedback to each client.

  • Maintain confidentiality between students and yourself.

Requirements:

  • All volunteers must do the following:

    • Complete this volunteer application form to indicate how they would like to make an impact within the program.

    • Meet with the learning center instructor or the volunteer coordinator to complete the screening process.

    • Create a VolunteerHub waiver prior to participating.

    • Sign in to VolunteerHub when arriving for volunteer shift and sign out when leaving (lobby kiosk)

Qualifications:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

  • Availability for scheduled volunteer sessions (flexible options available).
