OML x Refuge Worldwide presents: Making Hip Hop Beats with Wikihow Adventure Cruise
The Open Music Lab is pleased to announce a series of open workshops at Refuge Worldwide in April and May 2022. Inviting musicians, industry professionals and music experts to share their experience, specialist knowledge and inspirations, these free workshops will give participants a chance to learn directly from talented experts in an open, non-hierarchical space.
The workshop is about making hip-hop beats in Ableton Live and is aimed at people who have some familiarity with the software and the genre. We will discuss certain tips, techniques and guiding principles for making hip-hop beats, and give students a chance to try these out and bring their own questions and ideas to be discussed. Participants will need their own laptops with (any version of) Ableton Live or they will need to borrow one from OML. The goal is to send participants away with some concrete new skills, but also with a broader understanding of the craft and hopefully some new co-conspirators with whom they can continue to connect and share ideas after the workshop.
The workshop is taught by Richard Barr aka Wikihow Adventure Cruise, a Berlin-based music producer, mix engineer, singer and beatmaker working with various rappers and singers in Germany, France and UK. Richard also releases music as a solo artist and collaborates frequently with the Gochu Village collective, and is an experienced teacher.
Time: Monday 16th May from 6 pm - 8 pm
Location: The workshop will be taught at Refuge Worldwide HQ on Weserstr. 166
