The Little Gay Cook Book Club Sign Up!
Sign up to join us for The Little Gay Cook Book Club, a limited time special offering of The Little Gay Book Club in partnership with Future Front's Community Clubs program!

For four years, The Little Gay Book Club has brought queer and allied readers together for great stories and even better conversations. Now we're spicing things up (literally) by cooking recipes from the cookbooks we'll select and read together. Nothing builds community like breaking bread together, so join us for a Community Clubs season filled with family dinners and explorations of queerness, food, culture, and belonging.

If you want to join us please fill out the form below! Cook book club will meet at Future Front (1900 E 12th St, Austin, TX 78702) on Sunday August 16 from 6-8pm where we will pick our cook books for the season and plan for our first family dinner. Our second meeting will be Sunday Sept 13 from 6-8pm at Future Front. Our third meeting date and time is tbd. We plan to have family style potluck meals at our second and third meetings.

This club is free to join and open to all! There will be optional opportunities to provide food/drinks to share with fellow participants, and books will be available for purchase, but participating in those opportunities or purchasing books is not required. Also, we have some funds to offset the costs of cookbooks and supplies for members. More details about that will be shared at the meetings.

You do not have to be a member of The Little Gay Book Club to join the cook book club, but you're welcome to join both if you'd like! Additional information including FAQs for The Little Gay Book Club are also available on our website.

As always, if you have any questions or need to request accommodations, please contact us and we'd be happy to help! Email Lex (they/she) at lex@thelittlegayshop.com.

A Quick Note About Our Potlucks 🍲

We love a good potluck — but since everyone's bringing their own homemade dishes, we want to make sure everyone knows what that means. By signing up, you're agreeing to a few friendly ground rules:

We don't inspect the food. Potluck dishes are made by fellow book club members. We can't vouch for ingredients, how something was prepared, or how it's been stored.

Stick to the recipe when you can. Since we're cooking from the cookbooks we're reading together, we ask that you follow the recipe as written so folks know exactly what's in each dish. If you make any substitutions or changes (swapping an ingredient, leaving something out, adding something new), please label the dish clearly with what's different — this really helps people with allergies make safe choices.

If you're cooking, please keep food safety and sanitization in mind and consider cross contamination. Expect us to ask questions about how things were prepared so we can help each other make choices about what's safe for each of us to eat.

Got allergies or dietary needs? Please note that in the form above, and communicate with us all at the potluck. We want to give you all the information we can about how a dish was prepared, but please note that potlucks make it hard to control or prevent cross-contamination.  You know your body best, so it's on you to make the call about what's safe to eat.

Eating potluck food is a little bit of a leap of faith. We're all doing our best, but homemade food from a group setting always carries some risk of an upset stomach, illness, or an allergic reaction. By joining in, you're accepting that risk for yourself.

No pressure, either way. Bringing a dish and/or eating what's shared is completely optional. You're welcome at book club whether you cook, eat, both, or neither. Plenty of folks come just for the discussion!

The legal part: To the extent allowed by law, you're releasing The Little Gay Shop/Future Front and their staff, board, and volunteers from liability for any illness or reaction related to food at this event.

The general vibe: Coming to book club and the potluck is totally your choice, and you're responsible for taking care of yourself while you're here.
