Están en marcha las obras para la construcción del nuevo aeropuerto en la región Cusqueña, el Aeropuerto Internacional de Chinchero. Diversos artículos en la media y una investigación del Mapa de Justicia Ambiental de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona hablan de los impactos en el patrimonio histórico y cultural de los Incas, pero también de los impactos en el acceso al agua en una región que es ya afectada por la escasez hídrica. Además, la elevada contribución del uso de avión para el cambio climático y el los efectos dañinos de la actividad turística de masas en los ecosistemas locales se suman a la lista de impactos negativos

Con este seminario web buscamos escuchar a diferentes voces conocedoras del proyecto y de sus impactos en las cuencas, en el patrimonio cultural y histórico y en las comunidades de Chinchero y Urubamba, con vista a movilizar más voces de la sociedad civil para el debate sobre este mega-proyecto y de otros similares en América Latina.

The construction works of the new airport in the Cusco region, the Chinchero International Airport, have started. Several articles in the media and an investigation of the Map of Environmental Justice of the Autonomous University of Barcelona speak of the impacts on the historical and cultural heritage of the Incas, but also of the impacts on access to water in a region that is already affected by water scarcity. The disproportional high contribution of air traffic to climate change and the damaging effects of mass tourism on local ecosystems add to the list of negative impacts.

With this webinar we seek to listen to different voices knowledgeable about the project and its impacts on the watersheds, on the cultural and historical heritage, as well as on the communities of Chinchero and Urubamba. We hope to mobilize more civil society voices for the debate about this mega-project and similar ones in Latin America.
