Summer Civics Institute: Application

The Cincinnatus Center & Department of Political Science at Coastal Carolina University are honored to host a three-day Bill of Rights Bootcamp as part of our Summer Civics Institute focusing on the American political tradition. This Bootcamp is led by CCU faculty and is open to middle- and high-school teachers in Horry and surrounding counties. Participants in past Summer Civics Institutes are eligible to join. Our primary aim is to offer content-based professional development, equipping teachers with the history and pedagogy to lead students in the study of primary documents from American political thought. Topics include: free speech, freedom of religion, due process, freedom of the press, and federalism. This training will assist teachers in the fulfillment of new pedagogical requirements in the recently-passed REACH act. The Bill of Rights Bootcamp will take place on the campus of Coastal Carolina University.
Participating teachers will receive the following:
- $200 stipend;
- Mileage compensation for daily commute to CCU;
- 20 contact hours towards professional development credit;
- Catered breakfast and lunch each day
- A bound volume of primary source readings, sent in advance of the Bootcamp
Interested teachers should complete this application by May 15, 2025. Final notice of acceptance will be issued by May 21, 2025.
